HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!!!!!
This October we are celebrating our 1st birthday!! One year ago, this month, Mom and I took the recommendations of so many friends and family, who had been enjoying Mom's scones for years and decided to create Charmed Scones!

Truly, the idea to start the business was an effort to create some extra income for my upcoming wedding (then 9 months away). We started by creating our Etsy site and peaked some interest and a few customers. In November of 2009 we started the Los Feliz Farmer's market, which at the time was a very new little market with only two rows of tents and the amazing Gastrobus. There, we made tons of new friends and were lucky enough to pull in some high profile opportunities, like participating in gift bags for the Sundance Film Festival. It was the farmer's market that spawned both the Gluten-Free and Vegan scones, thus creating a new demographic and increased customer base, not to mention some of the best friends and loyal fans ever!

The buzz about us began to grow and we quickly became a destination spot at the Los Feliz Farmer's Market. Watching people walk into the market, bee-line for our tent and then leave was one of the most incredible feelings. Not to mention the eclectic crew of "regulars" that Mom pretty much adopted as family, if there were weeks we did not see people, Mom would get worried about them and we would remember, Will is on vacation or Bridgette and John are probably running this morning or Rebecca doesn't come until after 1pm. Our customer's would ask me about my marathon training and how the wedding plans were going. It was such a warm and inviting environment to grow a business and we created some very loyal fans, it was something that I could have never fathomed. We took on the challenge of creating new flavors each week and now we have 40+ flavors and they keep coming! We even had flavors suggested and then named after our customers.

After my wedding in July 2010, we decided to take a hiatus from the market to help grow our business and really put our efforts into getting a retail location. Our little idea to create some extra money for my wedding turned into a passion that we could not give up and a business that had taken off very quickly. We were ready to take this little side business to the next level.

In the past few months we have created our new More Than Scones Menu, which expanded our business to catering tea parties, wedding showers, birthday parties, etc. We are so excited about this new aspect of Charmed Scones and you will not believe the fruit tarts and freshly made lemon curd and jams!!

Currently, we are in the process of searching for our very first location. What a great birthday present that would be!!

So thank you Charmed Scones fans! Thank you for our first wonderful year, thank you for all the continued support, friendship, loyalty and love. We look forward to many, many, many more years of passion, friendship, love, smiles and bellies full of Charmed Scones.

Have a Charming Day!

Bows and Babies!

Tis' the season of BABIES!

I always thought that Spring, when the dew was fresh on the green grass, blue birds chirping, and everyone whistling a happy tune, was the season of babies! New grass, new leaves, new LIFE! But I have been corrected! Now that it is September and as I do the backwards math (Feb was 8ish months ago people!) we have lots of new babies arriving!

There is nothing better to welcome a new bundle of joy, than delicious Charmed Scones!! We have done lots of baby showers these last couple of months and we absolutely LOVE IT! There is nothing more special than preparing to bring a beautiful new life into the world.

With this comes babies showers, baby sprinkles ( a new term I just learned thanks to my girlfriends. It is when Mom-to-Be already has children and just needs a little "sprinkle" of gifts, rather then a full on "shower"), and all sorts of celebrations for this new little guy or gal to be.
Here at Charmed Scones, we love to personalize our scones, the labels and adding cute little bows and charms.
These adorable Sparkling Pink and Blue French Vanilla Charmed Scones, were for a Kim, who is 3 weeks away from giving birth to her 4th baby! A well deserved treat for a beautiful, glowing mama!

We also recently baked for a baby shower, for some VERY loyal and loving customers of ours, Tara and Terrence. We LOVE THEM! The cutest couple EVER! They are leaving their first baby's gender a surprise, so they asked for chocolate brown and sage green themed scones. Tara's FAVORITE Charmed Scone is Crissy's Cadbury Chunk, which took care of the chocolate brown for us and then we made a custom label using sage green ink, with the cutest little saying:

"A Bundle of Joy,
Whether Girl or Boy
8-24-10
Welcome Baby Hayes!"

Not our best photography, but you can see the cute sage green with white polka dot ribbon! They really looked so perfect and Tara reported back that they were a HUGE hit! :)

The possibilities are endless, custom labels, custom ink, custom bows, custom charms...
It's a great way for the Mom-to-be to feel special and cared for, which is exactly what she deserves!!!

Welcome Babies! and welcome to the world of Charmed Scones, may your scone experience never be the same again!

Stay Charming!!

Weddings!

So in case you didn't know I recently got married (July 17th)! And OF COURSE Charmed Scones had to make an appearance! After all my research on weddings I read everywhere that the best wedding favors are those that are personal and edible, so the guests have something yummy to snack on later in the night and so that they aren't left with a candle or a trinket with YOUR name on it that they will have nothing to do with later, and then just feel bad about when then throw it away after it collects dust for a month or so.

My husband and I both love peanut butter and chocolate, so Mom and I created a personalized Charmed Scone for the wedding the had Reece's Peanut Butter Cups
baked inside and then glazed with melted chocolate and peanut butter chips! YUMMM!! TO DIE FOR!! And because we got married at the Disneyland Hotel we found the cutest Mickey shaped cookie cutter! They were absolutely perfect!
If that doesn't make your mouth water I don't know what will ( I mean unless you are allergic to peanuts ;) )

An to make them even more personal and special we also created a customized label and added a bow to coordinate with the table setting.

More pictures to come of the table setting, but they looked absolutely AMAZING!!

We can do this for ANYONE, you don't have to own the company to get the royal treatment and completely customized and delicious Charmed Scones for YOUR wedding!! Your guests will love you!

Keep us in mind for all your weddings, baby showers, birthdays or any kind of event!

Have a Charming Day!

Welcome to our *NEW* Blog!!

WELCOME!! To Charmed Scones *NEW* Blog!!

This is where you will get all the latest and greatest updates and news about Charmed Scones!

A little background: We are the Mother-Daughter team of Valerie "Mom" Whalin and Colleen (Whalin) Hungerford. We officially started our business of making delicious, moist and fluffy scones in October 2009. But we don't do it alone! We gets tons of invaluable help from my sister Crissy Whalin and my husband David Hungerford and we wouldn't be able to do it without them!!

With the mission to let the World know that scones are NOT the dry, crumbly, yucky, overbaked, hard "stone" things that you see every morning at Starbucks or Coffee Bean, etc. They are supposed to be YUMMY and delicious and made with lots of LOVE!

So that is EXACTLY what we do! With Mom's secret recipe we started with only three flavors: Fresh Lemon, Bittersweet Chocolate Chip and Cream. In the past 10 months we have exploded and now have over 50 flavors and new flavors seem to pop up every week!

Due to popular demand we also created scrumptious Gluten-Free, Vegan and Gluten-Free/Vegan Charmed Scones! And they have been a SCREAMING success!!

Our Gluten-Free Scones created such a buzz and success that we were fortunate enough to be featured in the "Brit Roast" gift bags at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL!!!

Every Sunday you can find us at the Los Feliz Farmers' Market from 9am-2pm! The market is located in the Post Office parking lot on Vermont Ave and Franklin Ave. So if you are in the LA area COME ONE DOWN!!!!!

Here is a cute pic of Mom in the tent at the Los Feliz Farmer's Market

And this is me working the booth at this years Wango Tango Celebrity Gift Lounge
You are now pretty much caught up, so follow us on our blog, it will be your guide to our family filled journey of delicious scones, lots of fun and exciting new beginnings!

Have a Charming Day!
